(The
most difficult group shot to organize ever...)
I can't believe we got everyone together in one place like that.

This year was a first. Since 2003
we had been taking over the legendary Puppet Karaoke Bar (aka. Baksheesh,
aka. The Dive-Bar) in the wee hours when they had all passed out. So
after five years they simply turned it over to us. In February the Oakie
Texas crew came
to LA to give us a gift - a model of the bar itself made out of
beer cans and cartons with the challenge of picking the name, theme
and art. We knew it had to be just the right name...that illusive, magic
name with a certain je ne said quoi that you would only recognize when
it arrived.
That turned out to be - Kareem Abdul Ja-BAR! (The Triumph!) Yes...a
sports bar - with Couple Skate on the hour every hour. Stevie did the
programming, Spork made the mural
and with all of our collective energies I think we pulled off the best
bar we have all ever seen. And there were puppets. Glorious puppets.
And a Peanut Butter Briefcase. And Fucko Bingo (Gigsville's brilliant
though short lived theme camp). We also learned lessons. Ok, I learned
lessons. Never....ever bring large medieval weapons to Flipside. Really
ever.
