Greetings SINners,
This is the first
moment I've had free since the events of this
morning and I hope none of you experienced any anxiety about my
sorry ass. As Dr. Mojo noted, I work across the river from the
Pentagon at Bolling AFB, although I do spend some time in that
funny multi-sided building in Virginia.
As time is short
and I need to free up my phone line, here are a
few fun on-the-scene facts:
- I was in a class
this morning and just got out for a bathroom/coffee
break when the plane hit the Pentagon. We felt/heard the impact and
rushed to the window to see the initial post-impact fires and smoke.
- There was some panic amongst the members who have spouses/family at
the Pentagon, but the immediate and continuing reaction was anger and
determination.
- I got immediately pulled into the crisis reaction cell and have
been locked up in various and sundry stuff ever since. We did some
good work today and helped out a lot of people, and will probably
be doing the same for the next couple of days.
- When I finally got out of the building tonight, as I walked to my
car I could see the smoke from the still-burning Pentagon and could
smell it as well. What would the YIPPIES say?
- The airspace around DC is closed to all commercial traffic and
fighter aircraft are flying CAP (Combat Air Patrol) to protect the
National Capitol Region.
- The commute home was eerie...virtually no traffic...lots of road
blocks...
- I think everything is shut down around here, so it's going to be
martial law conditions for a bit.
I'll be going back
into work early early tomorrow and will be on
call 24-7 for the duration.
GIVE BLOOD!
Thanks for all your
well wishes and encouragement. Do not lose heart.
We will find out who did this and bring them to justice. This can be
our chance to rise to the challenge and find out what kind of people
we really are.

I should be drinking a toast to absent friends
